75HP Water Intake Screen
Once again I turn to the expert advise on the forum. You guys have saved me so much time, work and money. I thank you all. I am putting a new water pump in my 1975 75hp Rude. I thought while it was apart I would change the old beat up water intake screen. The drive shaft bearing housing protrudes over the water intake cavity just enough that I can't remove or install the screen without pulling the bearing housing. My OMC service manual says it takes a special puller to do this. I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question, but as it would only take about 1/8 inch ground off the bearing lip to allow free passage of the screen. Should I try doing this? Maybe the housing was designed like this so the screen couldn't get through there while the motor was operating. Am I off base by wanting to avoid pulling all this stuff just to get the screen replaced? Thanks in advanced for you help.
