I bought this boat last year had it in water once the water pump worked. This year I put new gear lube in and hooked up the garden hose to the flusher and water pump didn't work so I put the LU in a trash can of water and started the engine and it still did not work but I do here air after killing the engine and a couple of drips come out. Do I have to have in the lake so it can get deeper in the water for the water pump to work. I hate to drive an hour to the lake and find out that it don't work any info will help. If my water pump is bad does anybody have a manual or pages of just the LU and water pump diagram they can email so I can replace it. It's a 1981 Evinrude 75hp outboard. Thanks

Re: 75hp water pump

Are you sure it's not pumping water? Are you relying on the telltale stream? If so, it may just be clogged. Run a wire up the hose and see if it clears out. You should have no problem with cooling water if the muffs are hooked on correctly or the lower unit is deep enough (Over the cavitation plate) in the can. Is it spitting water out the relief holes on the back of the lower unit? Diagrams can be viewed at the BRP website.
