I am thinking about trading a guy my 1976 25hp evinrude electric start(25652E) for his 1957 Johnson 35hp seahorse electric start. I am trying to figure out the weights of each engine because I do not want my transom to sit too low in the water with the 35hp on it. It sits just fine now with the 25hp.

Does anyone know the weights of each of these engines so I can figure out how big of a difference there is? I keep finding around 125 lbs for the 1957 35hp on the internet.

This engine has a fuel pump on it. Did the 35hp come from the factory with the fuel pump since it is so big?

Thanks!

If it is truly a 1957, it did not come from the factory with a fuel pump. 1958 was the first year with a pump. Someone may have added the pump.

Well, I ended up trading my 95 pound 1976 25hp evinrude electric start for the 134 pound 1957 35hp Johnson electric start. IT IS A BEAST. it wasn't much fun lifting it out on my car and onto my boat all alone. I'm kind of worried about it hanging off the back of my 12 foot aluminum boat. My boat handled the 25hp great even with the 40 lb battery back near the transom, so that should be about how it sits with the 35hp. I am going to put my battery and gas tank and all gear as far forward and up underneath the fishing deck on the boat. Hopefully that will balance the boat out some more.

The 35hp is in all original MINT condition. It looks like it has sat in a garage out of the elements for 53 years. It even starts on the first crank of the electric start motor.

I also picked up a 1956 10hp Johnson with a fresh paint job and all new decals. It starts on the first pull of the cord everytime!!!!

If you can't tell I'm pretty excited.

The 35hp's fuel pump looks to be original and is bolted flush to the engine block, so I guess it has the cruiser fuel system even though its a tiller steer.

So the 25hp wasn't enough for your 12 footer? What brand boat? Got a picture of the 35 on your boat? I just bought a real nice 85 20hp evinrude, bored out the intake to 1.25, and converted it to e-start. I'm thinking that will be about all my 12 Smokercraft Alaskan will handle. I also am mounting the battery and fuel up front. Looking forward to trying it out...weather is getting better.

The 25hp was plenty for my 12 footer, but when you have the opportunity to trade a fixer upper 25hp for a MINT 35hp(even though its 20 years older) you take it. I always wanted a motor in that style too. My boat is a 1969 12' Lonestar aluminum V-hull. I attached a picture.

I also added in a picture of the 1956 10hp. The color is a little off, but it looks good.
