Running fine last week, yesterday losing power, squeezed bulb and went up to full power. Then bogged down and would only run at half power. Then started and died, then would not start at all. When I got it home I noticed excessive black oil on LU. Engine is a smoker but ran well, carb was rebuilt and one coil replaced recently. I do mix rich but always use high test, fresh gas. Have not checked plugs yet but I assume they are fouled. Can mixing rich cause this? Any advice appreciated. Seems to have been running too well to be dead!
Put new fuel pump in and it fired up but starts to miss after 1-2 minutes and dies. Is this a carb issue or ignition coils, points. I have a Seloc manual on the way before I try to take down the carb. Could the other coil be bad?

Mixing rich can cause this but loosen your fuel pump and press the bulb.
Any fuel coming out the pulse hole?
If so a broken membrane.

Check the fuel pump. Take the hose off at the carb and spin the motor. Be ready to catch the gas.

IMHO, High Test is a waste of money in that engine, stick w/87 oct. But do get Ethanol free if you can, and use some type of fuel stabiliser......
