Evinrude - The engine seemed to seize suddenly and without warning on the lake yesterday. I was unable to rotate the flywheel. Today I dropped the lower end to check the impeller and discovered that the problem is not in the motor (without the lower end attached, the motor turns just fine), it's in the lower drive unit... the driveshaft will turn in neutral only with great effort using a vice-grip on it.
I'm trying to remove the driveshaft and bearing housing, but after removing the bearing housing bolts (4), I don't seem to be able to get the housing to slide up the driveshaft, or get the driveshaft to come out of the lower unit. The bearing housing will rotate on the shaft with great difficulty (ie, tapping it around with a screwdriver and hammer taps).
I'm purchasing the repair manual, but in the meantime I'd appreciate directions on removal of the driveshaft and the bearing housing.
