76 evinrude 15 thermostat?

Trying to figure how to check it out and how to change it .... Even where it is or do I even have one?!?! Please excuse my lack of knowledge about this motor but trying to learn thanks in advance!!

If it's like my 77 you have on in an almost impossible place to get to. It's at the bottom juat in front of the cowl latch. You need to Google "Leeroy"s Ramblings and in it he will tell you how to get to it. Good luck.

Well I was hoping I didn't have to take the motor out to get to it but it's something I either pay someone to do or another learning experience for me which I like but fishing season almost over for me... Ill be in the woods

# 19 is your thermostat.

I just did mine on my mid 80's 15hp. I could not get the water cover jacket off or the cowl latch off so I had to remove the head first. A little more work but it worked fine. I also reused the head gasket, I spread a thin film of gasket sealer on it and it worked fine also. Most folks will say that's a no-no but i have it many times with never a problem.
