Just got it tuned. Everything is working fine. With one person on it it goes 30. With 2 ppl on it it goes 27 with 3 ppl on it it goes 15 with 4 ppl it goes 7. Tried the tilt, was not working, helped a little...about 3 MPH. I was thinking prop, any suggestions?

What do you have it on? The motor is big, but your boat may require more. What is your hull rated for? Is it possibly waterlogged? Another thing to check is motor height. Where is the Anti-Cav plate in relation to the bottom of the transom?

If you are spinning the motor at 6500 RPM, I would venture to guess that if you do have a problem with your prop, its that the hub is slipping.

The water sits at the two exhaust outlets...or close to them. The boat is rated for a 140. But the boat is a lower boat and it is sitting right at the water line is. Again, with 1 or 2 ppl it hats 30.

You could have a boat prob as the exhaust outlets on the mtr should be 6"-8" out of the water at idle. I go along with the water logged boat or the spun prop hub.

So if it is water logged, which I think it is, how can I fix it besides buying a new boat or spending a lot of money!?

Your option is to get under the deck and remove any wet foam you may have under the deck. Chances are if you have water under the deck, your transom and/or stringers are on their way to needing replacing. Sorry, not the answer you wanted to hear, since it doesn't satisfy either option. cut an inspection hole or two in your floor and see if it is saturated foam or rotted waterlogged wood. If it is, there is no cheap, easy fix.

OK, here is an update. After 15-20 minutes, the boat accelerated to 25 MPH in a mater of seconds with 3 ppl on board. Put a digital tach on that wraps around the spark cable. At 25 MPH I was running 4200 rpm and only 2200 rpm at 15mph.

As for the water log. The floor is wood with fiberglass on top. The wood is bad but has a layer of new 1/2 inch pt plywood on top. Stringers seem fine but only what I can see.

Re checked the exhaust and they are about 6 inches when standing still. Put one person back there and they are at 3 inches.

It is a 77 sea ray 185 with the original 76 johnson 135. It was given to me after sitting outside, open to the elements, for the past 7 years. Don't want to put too much into a boat that is not worth it. Just want to take 4 ppl out faster then 15 MPH.

Your numbers are close to mine. My engine is 76 Johnson 85HP.
