Re: 76 johnson 200 cuts out when throttle up

That engine will seem to run fine when only running on 3 or 4 cyls. Check each plugwire to make sure you have fire on all 6. A simple cyl drop test will tell you a lot about the spark. You can pull each plug wire off a spark plug when it is running. Normally when you pull a wire of a plug, the engine rpm's will go down somewhat. Reconnect the plug and go on to the next. etc. If you pull one plug off and the rpm's don't change, that plug may not be firing. You can get the same results with an inductive timing light. If your spark check out, then start looking at the fuel system.

thanks for the reply emdsapmgr I took it to my local boat repair guy and he said one of the power packs he thinks has gone out. He was going to do some tests to make sure before ordering one but it makes since to me why it was not running so well and it was a pain in the butt to start. thanks again

Very possible. The nice thing about these early V6 engines is that they have dual packs. The can be swapped for testing purposes-very helpful in misfire diagnosis.
