alrighty, this motors come along nicely

after new points and condensers it runs on both cylinders
it idles nicely and seems alright except for two things

1) How do I know where the long rich/lean idle screw at the top of the carb should be at? I know you only go a quarter turn or so with them but since the carb kit its been off..
Ideas welcome

2) I am under the assumption that ive got this motor in good timing. I gapped the points to .020 like the flywheel says. However it still smokes more than i would think it should. Is it the cold outside?
Ideas welcome

Your motor should have the low speed needle set at about 1 1/2 turns out from bottom and the knob put back on right at the half way point, so you can have room to turn either direction 1/2 turn.

Re: 76 johnson 25, smoke needle

i bought it with the linkage wire, and the knob missing
i have tried making one out of a wire hangar, but it vibrates out at either end, and copper wire so i could solder a knot on the end and it wouldnt raddle out, but all copper i have tried so far is too soft..

from the low idle needle
