Hi everyone, I posted this in the prop forum last week and got NO input so I'm posting it here.

I've got a 15' glassmaster v hull with a 1976 55hp Johnson.
Last night I went out fishing and when I started it to return home it wouldn't go, well, I found that the prop is gone and I had to row it 1.5 mi all the way home

Now I need another prop and need suggestions on pitch and size.?

How do I know if it is a large or small housing?

And if I get a used one, what should I look for th make sure I get the correct one.

This is a basic boat so I don't need a SS one or anything special, I just don't want to have to row it again.

Is there a good online source for a used one?

Thanks, Timmy

Re: '76 Johnson prop help needed

Just measured mine and it is roughly 3 1/2'' and is a a small hub, large hub would be more than an inch bigger than that.

Once you figure out which housing you have you need to count the splines on the prop shaft.

I have a 50 on a 16 v hull and run a 13 1/4x15, probably a good place to start.

Ebay has alot of props for a good price, just check there feed back before you bid.

I have had to troll 2 miles up stream before,we found out the motor wouldn't start at a little after midnight, it took 2 1/2 hours so I feel for you with the paddling thing.

Thanks, This means that mine also is a small housing. and I have 13 splines. What is the 1/4 in the 13 1/4 x15?

Re: '76 Johnson prop help needed

The first number is the diameter of the prop, the second the pitch or rake.

Re: '76 Johnson prop help needed

you can go here and see the original props that were for that motor.
http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

you will also need probably thrust bearing # 320305, spacer prop nut 315810, prop nut 314503, cotter pin 314502.

http://www.boat-props.com/propeller..._id=53&**********=014937118&*******=225179941

i strongly suggest the selection of the correct prop, in the prop forum. http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=35

Thanks for all the input,

I do still have the thrust washer.
And I do plan on getting a new spacer, nut and stainless cotter pin.

I've been to prop finder and love it, I just want to make sure I was getting the best prop for my application.
