76 merc 1150 wiring

hi guys, need some help on this one please.. 83 merc 115 blew a cylinder.. robbed a power head from a 76 merc 1150.. mechanic straight wired most of it but he left the kill switch undone and i dont think the tach is hooked up? need to know which is the tach wire and where it goes and i know the kill switch is black w yellow stripe, where does it hook up at on the engine side?? please help!! thanks in advance

Well, a '76 Merc 1150 uses battery ign. The black/yellow wire is not used.

So the answer to your question depends on whether you are using the distributor-based ign from the '76 or the ADi ignition from the '83?

The choke wire is yellow/black in the '83 wiring harness, grey in the '76 wiring harness. Tach is grey in the '83 harness, brown in the '76 harness. Tach wire will be connected to one of the yellow stator wires, at the rectifier

Its distributor.. So yeah, if the black/ yellow is not used which is the kill switch?? I really need tobget this hooked before using the boat..

Install the blk/yell wire on the brown wire on trigger...that way when kill tether is yanked it kills spark, just like the old liquid mercury switch did on impacts.

Yea still no luck faztbullett.. Talked to my mechanic friend, he said hook it to switchbox where he old mercury switch goes on?? It just aint a working.. May have something else going on?? Damned if i no on a boat motor, this is my 1st!!

The kill switch must be connected to ground and to the switchbox. It sounds like the black/yellow wire is not getting grounded, when the kill switch is activated.
