I was just out boating this weekend and couldn't get over 4600 RPM. My dad had the prop repaired years ago, but I think it's holding us back. I didn't look at it when I was there but will be going back this weekend.

What is the recommended prop for this in stock form. I will also take into consideration going up a couple pitches will be about right.

Also, are stainless props really worth the money for an older motor like this?

Re: 76 Mercury 850 prop

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct. Hole shot is a little slow, it's a old motor but just did a carb rebuild, and retimed. Runs good.

2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum. Aluminum 3 blade, repaired once.

3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required). Will get in the next day or two.

4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful) RPM reaches approx 4400-4600

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP 1976 Mercury 850 outboard

6) Boat make model, year, length and weight Mid seventies Larson runabout, 16 ft with a closed front hull. Not sure on weight or model. Maybe 2500 or so pounds.
