i cant get my "new" searay srv200 to start. i have a new battery and new ignition switch. i have been reading some of the posts and it sounds like my problem may be a bad fuse up near the ignition switch. no power gets to the switch at all. i was wondering if anyone knew if there was a fuse up near the dash of a 76 srv200 and if there is where would it be? i am having a hard time finding it but from what i have read most boats have one. thanks for any help
corey

Hi Corey,

I just bought a 77 SRV220 and had to pull the dash to do some wiring. Mine has inline fuse under the dash panel. More than likely your just going to have to get in there and kinda dig around to find it. Good luck & let us know if you get it figured out.

where under the dash panel was your fuse located? i have been looking around there for a while now and cant seem to find it. i hope that when i do find it that that is the problem. also do you know where, if there is one, the fuse box is located on your srv.
thanks for the help
corey

I do not have a fuse on my ing wire, but the wiring job has been redone by some one else. If not uder the dash could be tuck up on the side modling. Are you getting power to any other acc? I also replaced my ign switch. The old one was a three postion switch and the new one was a four, are you sure its hooked up right.

Also got any pics of the boat?

Re: 76 searay 351 no start??

hey thanks for the helpful response. at least i know that my ig switch will be fine. i am pretty sure it is hooked up properly. i am not getting any power to any accessories although the power trim button does do something. whne i press it the motor for the trim runs. but only when i press the down button, i think it is actually the out button. i will check around the moldings for some fuses. everything else is dead besides the trim motor. do you know if there is a fuse box? also what do you think would be the proble. i have a lot of cleaning to do on the boat so b4 i get the pics done i need to get it working and clean it. thanks again
corey

The trim pump is "usally" on its own set of battery cables which would explaine why it still works

You really need and electric meter to see if 12 volt is there or were it does stop ITS hard to tell from looking :)

tommays

hey yea i have a multimeter and have checked to see if i have 12v at the ig and i dont. how can i trace it back, do i just go to every connection and put the positive probe on the connection and the negative probe on say a piece of the trim or any metal part in the boat. sorry for what may be a bonehead question but this is the first electrical diagnosis i have ever done. thanks

Ya i would start at the battery and work my way forward assumeing you dont have 12 volts to the key switch ?

There is a circut breaker mounted on the "newer" motors i am not really sure about the older ones

But at that age it can stop at any bad connection :( + or -

hmm does that thing you said about age mean that a boat of that age has wiring that is fundamentally different than a boat that is more modern. what i mean by that is that do you need to use unorthodox techniques to diagnos problems. also i do know for a fact that the circuit breaker is a 40amp type and is on the top of the engine. this is basic i know but should i just unhook the battery, set the multimeter to ohms, put a probe on each of the two wires going into it and use the reading as an indicator of whether or not it is faulty? it seems like the breaker hasnt been tripped but maybe the actual unit itself is faulty.

No,...... You need to go to a Known, Good Ground...........

Trim usually Isn't Grounded........

oh ok, if the probe wont reach a known good ground can you just use a spare wire to lengthen the probe?
