77 25 hp evinrude telltale

at idle the water coming out of the telltale is cool but once i run the boat for about five minutes the water is extemely hot to the touch and when i dip water on the block it steams. i have replaced the thermostat and the impeller. any suggestions here to look next. these does not sound right to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi ya' doin TDR? Not good from the sound of it.<br /><br />This a salt water boat? Sounds like some major pluggage in the block some where. I think first thing to do is would be to pull the t-stat and hook up to flushettes in the drive way and let her flush on fresh water for a while. You may want to leave the t-stat cover off and start her up just to see if you get a good flow from the hole. If ya' do, put the cover back on and see if the engine overheats. Could be ya' got hold of a bad "new" t-stat.<br /><br />Keep us posted....thanks.

You are probably going to have to back track here! On a 1977 engine you should have replaced the entire pump assembly, not just the impeller. The pump housing, and impeller plate are probably badly grooved, and need replacement.
