Re: 77 50hp timing question

Please can someone with experience help me out with an answer here? Don't want to time the motor @ 30 and risk damaging it if today's gas is not satisfactory for that setting.

Thanks

Re: 77 50hp timing question

The link and sync needs to be done first as it sets the timming and carbs for running. The WOT timming will have to be checked on the water or in a test tank and set then. I would go with what the manual states if it is a merc manual for that motor. If your going by a aftermarket manual then there is as good chance it could be wrong. As is stated in the link you posted your motor I would set at 30 at 29 or 30. As for the gas, it will not hurt anything as long as you have a filter in the fuel hose along with the one on the motor. The gas with ethanol will be bad on the hoses, fuel pump, and carbs if they do not have new rebuild kits in them that are ethenol resisent. Stright non ethenol; gas can be bought in some places. Go to pure gas . com and see if there is one near you.

Re: 77 50hp timing question

Thanks for the reply. I plan on doing a link and sync on the water after I rebuild the carbs so that's why I was asking the question. My manual is a Merc manual. I do also have a Seloc but I think that states max timing @ 34 deg and I thought that was a bit much.
