My 55 will not stay running unless i contiue to choke it. The carbs were rebuilt two years ago, new tanks, lines, filters, fuel pump. It acts like the linkage is not sinked up.

Visible inspection shows there is a small looking spring that is comming off the bottom throttle that should hook to the "butterfly" linkage. When I work those together it appears to work, but I am no mechanic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pull the front cowling of the carbs so you can see the butterfly valves. With your engine not running operate your throttle from idle to full throttle and watch the butterfly's. they should both be practically wide open at full throttle.

Did the engine run right when the carbs were rebuilt? Has it sat up for a long period of time without being ran? If so you may need to pull the carbs again and clean them.

Good luck :)

Re: 77 55hp Envirude

It ran good all last summer and towards the end of the summer, you would be running full throttle and it acted like someone walk over and turn one carb off. it sounded like a it ran out of fuel and that is how i nursed it home was by choking it.

Last week I changed the fuel pump thinking it was starving for fuel. Both bowls were full of gas. I do not have a trailer so i just take advice and try it.

The butterflys seem to work with the choke, and close.

Maybe this will also shed some light. When you first start it, with the choke on (it has a toggle switch on the controls)only once or twice did it really rev up like it was wide open and so I turn down the trottle and now even with the choke it will no longer rev up unless I work the trottle and butterflys together.

Is there a spring or something similar that has broke or come lose?

This spring that I referred to looks like it should attach to the bottom, but when I place it under the linkage it prevents the choke from working and it will not start at all.

For some reason I think this is part of the problem, I just don't know if the pc is broke or has come lose.

Thanks for all the information.
