'77 85 Evinrude shift linkage?

Working on '77 Evin. 85, replacing water pump. How do you disconnect the shift linkage?

Not like my '96 115

Shift linkage is visable under the lower carb. You'll have to take the starter out to access the screw that goes through the shift rod.

It's been a while, but you need to open up the halves of the bellcrank. If you loosen the bolt thru the middle of the two halves, the jaws should open up and release the shift rod. The parts diagram at the factory website is helpful: epc.brp.com.
