I just received a gift of a 77 bayliner with a 77 85hp Evinrude, that my son in law said took an hour and a half to get started. When he did it ran fine. When he gave it to me I pulled the plugs and they looked all fouled. So I bought new plugs and I decided to check the spark output which was so thin and yellow that it was hard to see. It was that way on all 4 cyl., seemed to much to blame it on 4 bad coils. I don't know a thing about this engine nor any outboard. Cars yes, boat motors no. My son in law has the manual packed away, and I cannot find any info anywhere on the net. And alas I am not in the position at this time to spend 40dollars for a manual. Can someone help me find why I have bad spark, and how to correct it?-----thanks----Errol

It could be your powerpack going bad. But if you can't afford a manual, you definately can't afford a powerpack. I just bought one for my 115hp and it cost me $117.00. I also had to get a Timer base for it and it cost $295.00. Thats one thing you'll find out about working on outboards. They are expensive to replace parts.
