77 9.9 hp slips at high end

got a 1977 9.9 when trying to get to faster speed it starts to slip. sounds like something in the lower unit. any ideas?<br />thanks

Only one thing I can think of...open it up and it'll rear it's ugly head!

seems like the same problem I have....I just posted and got a fast response....he said that it is most likely the prop slipping on the hub...either replace the hub or the whole prop that comes with a new hub. with the motor in gear and NOT running....try to rotate the prop....it should be around 100 ft/lbs before it slips....hard to measure without the right tools....but, see if you can rotate it at all....if not, then there may be other problems...but posibly not...hope this helps

Sounds like you either have a spun prop hub or the dog gear in the lower unit needs replacing....
