i have this motor that i know nothing about..but i know we have people that do. so i just had a water impellar,thermostat,hoses,and water pump replaced. now i went to the lake and tryed to run the motor and, it started fine. i let it warm up and went in reverse and then forwarked a little bit and then i got a loud buzzer sound coming from my shifter or key ignition area. tried to restart the boat, and wouldnt start till about 30 minutes later.then just turne the key on and then the buzzzer came on again. so let it sit till about an hr and then it fired right back up again.. then i had what seeemed to be flooded cause it smoked like it was to rich of oil and flooded. then everytime i let it warm up it would give me the buzzer and would run rough...plse help and thanks for the info i get from this....also i dont know where to fing the model number and these are the numbers i hae of the motor.

Maybe it's overheating? Continuous buzzer? Can you touch the block with your hand without getting burned?

I wouldn't just keep running it until the buzzer sounds or it may stop permanently!

When the horn sounds at the control, the temperature switch on the cylinder head has closed, telling the operator that the engine has overheated and to shut the engine down immediately.

In 1977, the only thing connected to the horn is the temperature switch.

Once the engine overheats, the engine will bind, and it is quite common to have the head gaskets blow, allowing water to enter the cylinders.

Initially, protect the firing chambers and pistons by adding oil. Then find out why the cooling system is not working.

Re: 77' Eviinrude 85hp buzzer going off!

The most likely thing is the water pump, because there are more possible problems:

It is very easy to have the key that locks the impeller to the drive shaft out of place;

The rubber seals that the two water tubes enter can be pushed in too far and block the water circulation;

The water inlets on the lower unit can be blocked;

The air bleed hole at the top of the impeller housing can be blocked;

The water tubes can be oxidized and have holes in them;

You may have run the engine without adequate water and burned the new impeller.

ok thanks for all the great info u have provided. i would like to ask if this alarm goes off or buzzer, does it need to be replaced after it goes off. last but not least, if i never ran the motor very long,{ meaning not longer then 10 minutes in the water do u think i have hurt anything in the crankcase or the main head of the motor. or will i loose horsepower. thanks again

If the hot horn goes off again, stop the engine right away, not 10 minutes later. Impossible to know if you did permanent PH damage.
