I have a quick question, I am in the process of putting the lower unit back on this motor. I was lining everything up, and I was turning the prop shaft to line up the teeth in prop rod with the motor, Once I had the teeth lined up, I began to push the lower unit into motor. For some add reason now the prop shaft spins freely without spinning the prop rod so I remove the lower unit, and now I can spin the prop shaft but the prop rod won't spin. Its like it disengaged, did I do something wrong, or can the lower unit be disengaged.

Thanks

The shaft that runs from the lower unit to the engine is called the "Driveshaft". The shaft that the propeller slides on is called the "Propshaft".

I would assume that initially you had the shift rod pulled upwards when inserting the lower unit to the engine. This would create a condition that as you pushed the lower unit upwards, the shift rod would hit something and get pushed down a notch into neutral.

Before installing the lower unit, push the shift rod downward to engage it into gear. This should solve your problem.
