I got a 77 25 hp rude and I am really missing the shallow water drive that I have on my 9.9. I know that the 35 has shallow water drive and was wondering if the exhaust tube and clamp assembly from a 35 can be swapped to a 25?

The part numbers between the horsepowers are different but that’s likely because of the different features offered

although the assemblies are advertised as “25/35” o can’t be for certain it would fit

I was wondering if this is possible and if someone has any insight ?

Thanks

#1, what 35 has shallow water drive? Not by the time my '84 was built, they didn't.
#2, the exhaust tubes and lower units were different, at least during that year.

Thanks jimmbo. So I guess we haven't answered the OP's question, can he put it on his 25hp. I don't know and haven't researched it.

I would say no because the center section and lower unit are different on the 77 25 hp

Sorry guys. I meant to say the swivel tube but nevertheless I think that everyone understood what I was getting at. I’ll do a little more research and report back on what I find out.

Here's a page from the 1977 Johnson Brochure.
http://boatinfo.no/lib/johnson/broch...hnson.html#/16

The differences in the Exhaust Housings, Transom/Swivel/Tilt Brackets, are quite easy to see. However, the Rubber Cushion/Mounts on the Exhaust housings look like they are in the same Location, though upper mounts might or might not be the same. The OP will need to go thru the Parts lists of each engine, and also take some careful Measurements, but the Engine with midsection and Gearcase might be mountable on the Other's Transom/Swivel Bracket

My question would be are the new type models late 70's/early 80's 35's same lower unit as the 15's??? I should know this but don't as I've had both.

Believe both the 25 and 35 from '77 had shallow water drives. Maybe the mechanism was removed from your 25 by a PO. If you have a 35 bracket for parts, there's probably a chance you can transfer the s.w. drive assembly to the 25.

I dug our the service manual so I’m looking into it. I’ll report back once I catalog the part nos between the two
