Hey everybody...I've spent over a week researching and trying different things I've found on here but still have this problem. When I first take the boat out the motor starts right up on 2nd pull usually. After running up river we like to float back down to the ramp...only starting the motor to avoid trees and snags but for far too long now I've had to pull and pull and pull to get it going again after running up river if I've waited longer than what seems like 5 minutes from when I shut it down. I dunno if this symptom will help or not but when pulling the rope it is noticeably harder then usual and then all of a sudden on anywhere between the 10th - 15th pull it will finally spit a little smoke out the exhaust and that pull resulted in less resistance then you know it will start on the next pull and run just fine...unless your trying to idle which I don't know if that's related or not....tends to just die if you don't give it at least 30-40% throttle.

Things I've checked / done;
- Fuel Pump diaphragm does not leak when removed from motor and primer bulb pumped
- New primer bulb installed
- New carb kit installed
- Checked all fuel lines for leaks
- New spark plugs
- Ground connections on the coils

Soooo I'm no mechanic but I bought the shop manual to help me out and I do know a little I guess. I just don't know if it's fuel related or an electrical issue that only shows up after the engine gets warm...just getting frustrated trying to chase this nagging problem down!

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!

Whats your choke procedure?
I had this problem on mine, luckily it had electric start.
I stopped using choke at start up if it had being sitting for less than an hour but i would advance throttle a bit more than normal.
Also try keeping the motor tilted right up until you need to restart and see if that helps

When I first go out I choke it. When going to restart after floating it doesn't seem to matter if I use the choke or don't choke it. I usually try a few pulls with no choke, then choke it and pull it till I get that exhaust exhale. Then I push the choke in and it usually fires up the next pull. Now that I read your post I also have to almost go to WOT to get it to fire in this situation....

Also forgot to mention I unhooked the fuel line while floating last time just to see if that would help but it did not....

By the way, when u say keep it tilted right up do you mean like up out of the water?

Thanks man

Yep i tilted mine up just to make sure any carb overflow when i fished wasnt seeping down into inlet reeds and no sea waves would push exhaust water up into the head.
You could try an ohmn test on the stator when cold and when it wont restart and see if theres a big difference.

Also check your plugs for any signs of water intrusion, if the engine cools enough over those few minutes, water that would normally evaporate when in the cylinder, which may of seeped in through a failing exhaust or head gasket will cause a hard start. It wouldnt happen at your first start up in the day as the water hasnt circulated yet.

Could it be...I'm just asking, the heat of the warm engine raising the fuel level in the float bowl. Too much Fuel in the throats, and the engine is flooded.
When you get to this point, pull it through two or three times, then stop and pull the plugs to see if they are wet?

I had the older 2-Hose 35's. One of them back fired, jerked my tendons loose all the way to my Biceps.
Good motors though.

Also I noticed I was missing a few parts that I ordered last night but doubt it has anything to do with it...the plug for the air silencer box and the gaskets between the carb and choke support and the choke support and air silencer box...
