Ok, another greenhorn question - how do you drop the lower unit to replace the impeller? I've removed all lower unit bolts (6) and can not figure out how to disconnect the shift rod from the upper unit. All help is appreciated. TEXRGD

look down low behind the carbs,,should be a bolt holding the shift rod there,,may need a swivel on socket to get to it.if theres no bolt there look on side of shaft for a little plate,,remove it and see if it connects there.

OK, I got it. Clymer's shop manual said the same thing and I scratched my head for a couple of hours on why this bolt was to be pulled. I got up this AM and did it finally determined to see what they had in mind. Shazam! They have a trick shift rod arm that splits and swivels. I had the impeller replaced in an hour. Had to cut the impeller off. Life is good - follow the manual.
