I have a 175 OMC, I beleive the drive is a 76, or 77 model, I can't remember exactly I know somewhere in that time frame there was a change in the shifting mechanism and mine is the earlier one. I can picture all the parts in my head but can't think of the names for that style of shifting. Its on a Ford 302 block. I am having problems somewhere between the battery and the starter. The starter is just about brand new, literally its probably only been cranked a half dozen times ever. When I flip the ignition switch I get a weird sound, it kinda sounds like a continous clicking sound, it almost sounds like when things are sparking, and its not the solenoid clicking cause when the battery is low I hear it click properly. but the sound is coming from that general area and the starter is not cranking at all. It only happens when the battery is full and/or on the charger. Also unfortuantely I can't turn the key and be at the back at the same time, I am at a loss at where to go from here. It cranked properly and ran after the starter was installed. Lastly the outdrive is not on the boat. but the motor has started (only very briefly of course so it didn't overheat) without it on
Any suggestions or ideas on what to look at or for, would be much appreciated.
