motor was not running good so took in to shop & they told me its getting water in #1 cylinder.they said i have crack in block.when i went to pickup asked if it could be anything else.they said it could be head gasket,or some kind of other seal.now they are going to pull head gasket & check.so what else could it be or do they not know what they are doing.also what is the block made out of?if it is a cracked block is there any way to fix it?

The exhaust cover seals (gaskets) can be bad as well as the cylinder head gaskets. Either can allow water to enter the cylinders.

If they are going to examine the block, ask to be there.
