78 4hp do recoil spings wear out or can they be oiled ??

My recoil spring will not pull back the cord very well. If you tug the cord a little it want's to recoil but will not pull the cord all the way back in.

Springs don't wear out, but cords do. They swell and are harder to wind back on the spool.

You could very carefully put one more turn of preload on the spring/spool or you could inspect and maybe replace the cord.

Ok. I oiled it real nice with some pb-blaster. She now works like a charm. I decided I will give this outboard at least one more day of life.
