hello all, have the above motor on a 73' 16 ft crstliner that i bought for a few hundy last year. spent some time and a few bucks turning it into a decent fishing boat. Couple of things on the motor that I have some questions on. On starting cold it shudders a little and then runs smooth. On goosing it (warm or cold) the motor dies and even when warm it go's from slow to fast and then runs smooth and some-what strong. I've been running 50/1 is that correct? Over all I'm trilled that it runs and starts with the utmost of ease considering what i paid. Maybe a new gas filter and run some seafoam through it? The carbs seem clean so I don't want to pull them apart. I did install some new shifter cables as everything was missing so maybe I need an adjustment or two........thanks all knowledgable boat minds for any input.

Have you done a compression test? You don't say anything about tach readings or speed.What is the idle set at? 50-1 is right.
The carb might need the low speed air screw re-set. Turn the screw in till it lightly bottoms out and then turn it out 1- 1 1/8 turns. You might have some water in the system(hesitation). Seafoam or Power Tune(Merc) will not hurt.
