'78 9.9 evinrude no peeing

I got this motor used, runs good, but doesnt squirt water out the squirter, so I put a new impeller in it, didnt really help much, a little, but still wont shoot a stream. Have not had it in the water yet, this is just off the cuffs and a garden hose, any other idea's?

i had the same problem.
i took of powerhead and at water inlet to powerhad there is cupper pipe conecting water pump and the powerhead and at the end of this pipe is rubber gromet.in my case this gromet was totaly blocked.

Submerge the L/U and see if that makes a difference.

yes its good advice.i conected garden hose to water pipe and opened water on full power and there was no flow thru the engin

Don't think the 78s had a pisser (I have a 75). If you are referring to the hole at the upper center of the lower unit just below the cowl, that will blow out only a spatter of water when idling. When you open it up the water will flow out in a stream proportional to the rpms.

Yes it did, 77+ had the telltale, 76- only had the exhaust relief, probably just blocked up, could be that the water tube didn't go back in the pump.

What is a L/U?

Ill take it apart more and see what I can find in there.

Lower unit, the gearcase to be precise.
