Picked up a '78 90hp 6 cyl and having a few fuel system related problems, have some questions:
1. My fuel pump o-ring (above the fuel screen) doesn't look like it fits properly .. it's quite a bit larger than the screen diameter and I need to push it into place with a screwdriver (thinking this is a dirty fuel / ethanol issue). Does the 90hp use the same fuel pump as the 115? I can't seem to find any o-rings listed for the 90hp.
2. I've 10 gallons of premium gas with about 6 oz of Seafoam per 5 gallons. In general, the motor is running much better, but I do get some instances when the top carb spits fuel out and the engine bogs during acceleration. Is this a sticking float, and how do I fix?
3. Any other tips for fuel system maintenance outside of removing and rebuild carbs?
4. Is the fuel pump filter the only filter in the fuel system, and should I add a filter somewhere else?

Re: '78 90hp 6 Cyl: Fuel System Questions

Here at Iboats is the fuel pump rebuild kit.On each carb behind the brass fuel inlet is a little screen,if its still there most have removed them somewhere along the line.Fuel spitting out can be a number of things.I would check the floats, older floats some cork and some plastic cork swells after age and the plastic one's can leak meaning they fill up with fuel and sink therefore gas keeps coming and flooding the motor.I dont know what shape your motor is but I have one identical and would recommend rebuiling the carbs, fuel pump, and fuel lines. As for a fuel filter many different opinions.I run a inline fuel filter right after the fuel pump.Works for me.
