At first I had spark on 2,3,4 but not on 1 So after checking all the plugs and wires for corrosion and whatever, I pulled the flywheel to find the key was sheared fixed that. Now I have no spark on 1,3 both on starboard side. What to check?

I find some of these test very confusing. I can't see how to do these test without cutting the wires. For example.

(NO SPARK OR INTERMITTENT SPARK ON ONE CYLINDER OR ONE BANK:
1. Swap the stator’s Brown for Brown/Yellow and see if the problem moves. If it does, the stator is bad.)

(NO SPARK ON ANY CYLINDER:
Disconnect the Black/Yellow stop wire(s) AT THE POWER PACK(S) and retest.)

These wires are in factory rubber plugs. How can I do these test??

OK, but what about the Blue,Green and white now they are disconnected. Well I did swap the brown, Brown/yellow wires from the stator from one side to the other on the coils and it moved the fire no fire to the opposite side. So does this mean the stator is bad??

HMMMM! wonder why at first I had fire on 2,3,4 but not 1 then after fooling with wires and replacing flywheel key I lost fire on 1 and 3 ??

on my 83 140 i found some of the connectors would push back in the rubber plug and get corroded therefore not making contact sometimes. check those very carefully may save bucks. good luck:joyous:

OK, So I put a different Stator on and now I have fire back on 2,3,4 but not 1.(back to where I started) I am very confused. I tried the no fire or intermittent fire on one cylinder or one bank. According to this it says if the firing stays the same that the stop circuit is bad. What is the Stop circuit? I am starting to pull my hair out on this I can't seem to get fire to #1 cylinder.

Stop your grizzling, you seem to ignore advice
You never said whether you did swap the powerpacks over.
Have you swapped your coil/plug over?

Well OK here is what I've done first day I messed with it I turned it over checking spark. I had spark on 2,3,4, not 1. Motor would crank and run but rough and that is obvious. Put a different coil that I know was good and same thing fire on 2,3,4 not 1. Then checking wires plugs all that for loose connection, try again now Firing on 2,4 not 1,3 hmmm! scratch head. Then I swapped rectifier with one I am pretty sure is OK no change. Then I tried the swap the brown, brown/yellow wires from the stator from one side to the other. It moved the spark to the other side replaced Stator with one I think is good. Now back to the beginning. Everything is now back to where I started firing on 2,3,4 not 1 hmmm! So now I try swapping the power packs stays the same. Also tried unplugging the big plug(black/yellow wire on both power packs then no fireat all. I have ordered a DVA adapter. Is is possible that my problem is the trigger/timer base. I just don't have fire on number 1.

It is just confusing the heck outa me how I have good spark on 2,3,4 and not 1. It seems to me if something like that is bad it would affect more than just the #1

I just ordered it, will have to wait a few days till I get it. Does the motor need to be running or just being turned over to do all these test with DVA

Thank You for your help along the way Bosunsmate. Got fire on all four cylinders now. Replaced timer/base with one I had on another motor. Now I guess I will have to check timing, link and sync, rebuild carbs, and change water pump. Thanks again guy's for the help.
