Hi - I just got a 78 Evinrude 70 HP Model 70873C
Runs great -at higher speeds it's OK - the only issue is coming back to the dock, when I throttle it back almost to an idle (still in forward gear), it stalls (not a problem - it's close enough to drift in by then!)

It'll do the same thing in low speed in reverse - I have to goose it just a bit to keep it running.
Is there an easy way to adjust the low/idle speed on it?
Thanks for any help,
Allan

Before you adjust idle speed, make sure all three carbs are in synch.

There is a low speed idle mixture screw on each carb. You may have to pull out three plugs on the front of the air intake box to access them.

Al
I would reccomend that you have your carbs. looked at. I'm glad that I did. I have a 77 70hp Evinrude that had the same symptons. The middle carb is the all important one, that I was told is your idling carb. If the carb is not functioning correctly you could burn up your powerhead by starving that cylinder of oil and destroying your motor.
I had all three rebuilt, "link-sink" done. She runs like a S.o.B.
Dont take a chance spend a little money and get it done right!! :p
