78 Evinrude 9.9 maintenance questions

1978 Evinrude 9.9 Model#10824M , I have the owners manual, can't figure out these "grease fittings" they aren't zerk fittings,& a needle doesn't work either, any tips would be appreciated, there is a zerk fitting on the outside of the shaft

If your talking about the grease points that almost look like a Zerk but have no center ball and no neck to lock the grease gun on, those are the grease fittings. Just press the grease gun on to them and hold in place while pumping. I think they did it that because it was cheaper and the area around an outboard is a lot cleaner than under a car. Same idea as with no air cleaner.

Yes, those are it, one for hood latch and one for idle adjustment, I tried holding the gun on and it doesn't seem like its taking grease, hard to tell, without a fitting , just a hole. Do u know if I should be carrying a cotter pin, prop nut, & thrust washer in the boat along with the spare prop? someone said this model doesn't have a pin but there is one, unless that pin isn't considered a "cotter"
