78 Evinrude changing water pump. Cant get output shaftout of crank. Help?

Hey, any creative suggestions on how to get shaft out of 25hp motor crank so housing will drop down? Its rusted in crank.

If you have the shift rod disconnected, the 4 bolts plus the nut on the gearcase mounting stud removed and it still doesn't drop, make sure that stupid mounting stud is not frozen in there holding things up. If that is not the case, then you'll have to resort to brute force and try to wedge it apart. Be patient, as guys have worked for weeks trying to get these things unstuck.

If your LU will drop a 1/4" or so...then you probably missed the shift linkage bolt.

Before you start banging on it to get it loose, be very very sure that you got ALL the bolts.
