hello, i just got my first boat and knew it was going to be a project when i got it. its a 1977 monark mcfast5 with an 85hp johnson 1978 engine. first off i need to re-wire the entire boat. does anyone know of a good detailed book that has wiring diagrams? when i got it there were no wires i could salvage since the previous owner pretty much connected a bunch of wire together since they didnt have the right lenght to begin with. so i dont know where to start with getting the ignition connected. ive taken the engine apart and checked for leaks, put new seals and everything on there. so wiring is what i need help with for the time being. any input would be helpful at this point, thanks

engine wiring is with a complete harness from the control to the motor. other than battery cables. there are complete sets with control on ebay. your motor should have a big red plug, that the harness, connects to. you need a red plug harness.. as far as boat wiring the is a very good post in the engine faq forum

highly recommend you get a factory shop manual for your engine, available at kencook.com or marineengine.com, will pay for itself many times over. it'll have the complete engine wiring diagram.

welcome to iboats!
