Im rebuilding my 1400 and i got new Factory piston kits for the job...after i got the pistons i realized i would have to heat the piston and press these piston pins...I have inquired with my supplier about a set of pistons that i would not have to press the pin in place...i told him the pin should be Full Floating and free in the piston pin boss, Now he has Sierras 18 4505...but he says the pin really isn't that free in the piston pin boss...Would these Sierra kits be the non-press type im looking for...i just don't know exactly what "feel" or clearance im looking for in these non-press pins...any insight is greatly appreciated...

Thanks, but i won't use a forged piston because of heat transfer properties...and wiseco's are forged...

OEM pistons do not have floating pins, Wisco do I know some guys hone the wrist pin hole to float the pin, we just heat the piston. Your choice I guess.

Re: '78 Merc 1400 piston/pin question

I dont know of any aftermarket piston(for this engine) that doesnt have the floating pin. I do know the Pro, Wsm, Persan, Serria, GLM, Mallory, Tech2O, and older Wiscos have the floating pin.
