'78 merc 800- No 'hole-shot'

'78 merc 800 80hp ser. #5006860. New fuel pump and recent carb cleaning. Went from having occasional hole shot, to almost never, just bogs and stalls. Usually, if I catch it in time, I can throttle back and very gradually throttle up to about 2200rpm and then it will really go (5300 rpm)
I'm going to re-clean entire fuel system and check float adjustment. Are there any other usual suspects I should be investigating (especially when I have the carbs off)? Thanks.

Sounds like a lean condition, ck the idle adjutments pickup and when the carbs are apart the float level. Also some of those carbs had a plastic venturi that would fall of and the would act like that
