Hi all,
Late season last year and this summer iv been noticing a shake when I put my merc into gear. My carb is set to idle at 750 (warm), and once in gear, it shakes untill about 900rpm, then no problem.
Im running a stainless prop, which was balanced and repaired a few years back. Iv had the prop double checked, and ruled it out completely. Last week i put my aluminum 17 (ss was 18) and the shake is still there, though seems slightly softer (im assuming because of the weight difference?)
The drive only shakes when in gear up to ~900rpm, then goes away. Nothing in neutral, and same in reverse. Shake is moderate if that makes sense.
With the prop ruled out, could this be U-joints or a gimbal bearing? Ill also note that there is some soft clunking noise but nothing violent.
Hull is an 18ft fibreglass closed bow American Eagle ski boat.
Thanks in advance.
