I have a 1978 Mercury 90hp 900 inline 6. I had it to hit on started fluid by spraying it into the carbs. I disconnected everything off the battery nothing was label. I connect the 2 main leads back to the battery that runs to the motor. I cant get spark now. Any ideals what it could be? I cant find anything out on how I could test the coil or the distributor.

Did it have spark before you disconnected everything? Starting Fluid is not a good thing to use on a 2 stroke. Ether is great at washing the oil off the bearings and cylinder walls.

The CDI Electronics web site has a troubleshooting procedure for your Battery-powered CDI ignition. It will test the switchbox, trigger and wiring, and assumes the coil is good, which is a good assumption.

Yes it would hit but not stay running bc carbs was bad. My fiancé than disconnected the battery. Connect to battery with a better battery couldn’t get any spark. I than go the next day and try again & was able to get it to hit again. Than day after tried and no spark yet again. Now it’s staying as no spark.

That sounds like a trigger problem; you should get that troubleshooting procedure from the CDI site.

I found the website. I’m going try troubleshooting it sometime today. I think it might possible be a bad ground or the trigger not sure yet tho. Thanks everyone for the help tho.

Does anyone know where can buy the internal wiring harness at? The part number is 37817.

When I last checked engine wiring harnesses were pretty easy to find on the web.Sierra makes them as do CDI and likely others. if you have the OEM part number, a simple search should turn up more sources than you need.
