There are no "super secrets" that I know of. I'm sure your manuals have told you to drop the lower unit and remove the shrouds at the base of the engine. There are a couple of things that you can do. Soak all bolts with PB Blaster (much better than WD40 or other like products) and be prepared to use plenty of heat (propane torch). If/when you break some bolts go to the red search at the top of the page and try a variety of search arguments as this has come up many times before.

If it were me and I ran into the broken bolt bit I would take it to a machine shop who does this type of thing. There is a guy in my area who is 83 and can make/fix most anything made out of metal. Prayer may also help and it does beat cussin.

No.This manual says nothing about dropping lu or shrouds. it
says remove the eight bolts around power head and lift off.Simple heh.I can take care of the broken bolt if I can get to it.
Its not an immediate job so I think I'll get the oem manual. Thanks davexx

Did you get the two in the cavity in the back (under the exhaust)?

Heat really helps on salty motors. If you can get the bolt/stud moving at all, you've got it. Just keep moving it back & forth, expanding the range of motion a little bit at time.
