I have recently noticed that after I have run at high speed for a while, when I stop, I notice a oil sheen arround the motor for quite some time. After closer inspection, there is fuel residue on the engine. I do not have any fuel leaks at the pump or connections. The engine runs and idle fine.

A friend suggested that my carburetors need to be overhauled. Does anyone concur?

Where is the residue on the engine?

You might want to look at a small hose on the port side that goes from the lower back side of the air silencer base to the intake manifold. Make sure it's still on and not broken.

Good luck!

I don't see any evidence that your carbs need work. If the silencer drain hose is okay you just might have some reeds going soft and standing open too long at high rpm, allowing some fuel/air mix to blow out of the carbs. This happens if someone has tried to hop up the engine by bending the reed stops up beyond spec in the mistaken notion that it would increase intake flow.

BTW, Dhadley, how did you know what brand and size engine this is????

Blue sky and flat water.
JB

TKS1954,Hi,If,as you mentioned,no visable fuel line leaks,I would look real closely at the 4 bypass plates on both sides of the block (2 each side). Internal base pressure is at it's peak at W.O.T. and thats when the plate gaskets will leak the oil/fuel mix and can be real hard to pinpoint. Good luck...

Thanks for the responses. I failed to mention that when I remove the air silencer cover, there is fuel puddled in the bottom. The hose to the crankcase is in tact.

Thanks again.
