I have a '79 Evinrude 15hp model #15904E that I got at the end of last summer. I have run it on my Avon inflatable once and noticed quite the oil slick around the exhaust when i was at the boat launch and then when i flushed it at home also noticed some gunk/sludge dripping out of the exhaust as well. I drained the gear case and the oil did not look to have water in it. Is the oil slick/sludge normal for a 2 stroke engine? I am also about to order an impeller and will replace that, the water ports were shooting out plenty of water, but who knows when the impeller was last changed.

The unburned oil that drains while running is normal, but many 100% synthetic oils are both biodegradable and run cleaner.

Make sure that your gasoline/oil mix is 50:1 with TCW-3 oil and that your thermostat is working properly for the best possible results.
