79 ,200hp. merc/ trash in carb again?
Last year my mechanic rebuilt the carbs on my 79 200hp. mercury o/b. Actually he had to redo them 3 times, apperantly some trash kept getting in and stopping the needle from seating. So after the last time he cleaned them i purchased and installed a good fuel filter before running it again, ran fine for a few fishing trips, until the next breakdown hehe, flywheel was worn so bad wouldnt start(see last post) $400 later iam back in business
) only for a day tho as the stator burned up next,so yesterday i installed the new stator and fired up the ol 79 merc on the hose ,and sounded sweet, but i noticed fuel dripping from the bottom carburator when it was idling, of course when i throttled up to 2 or 3 k rpm it would suck it in and not drip. Anyway iam hoping that when i take it to the lake if i can get it on plane maybe it will clear it's self , if not i will have to attempt a carb cleaning myself,as i cant afford the mechanic this time. But iam wondering watt could have caused this... float set too high maybe? Bad gas? sat in drivway 2 or 3 months till i got the flywheel, just added some fresh gas in with the old. I have a water seperator type filter ( looks like an oil filter on a car) Iam afraid it's not going to perform well when i go to the lake today, going to try to blow it out,and get rid of some fuel to make room for new. Again i want to thank all who reply I really appreciate your comments and advise. iam adding a couple of questions on the way out...(1) which is the best manuel for me (79 200hp. merc) and (2) The kill swith on my 79 challenger has a clip that holds the button in while running, it looks like a baby bottle nipple, if any1 can direct me to a place to get 1 i would appreciate it , i dont want to replace the whole switch unless i really have to.
thanx agin all.. I love this place .
