can anyone let me know how to get the shift lever bushing out of the upper gear housing. the book says to change it when you remove and re-install the shift lever but does not read how too. seems like its in there pretty solid.
thanks

On a smaller OMC, I tapped threads into the bushing, put a bar with a hole in it across some supports and threaded a bolt into the bushing. Tightened till it pulled out real slick. On mine there was an O ring seal below the bushing that I wanted to replace. Of course had to replace the bushing too.

Thanks LP

Thanks for responding. I should of done a search before I asked the question. If i did I would have found the answer to my query. Y'all must get sick of answering the same questions over and over. Luckily I have access to a machine shop here at work. I followed the directions of the other method of removal which was in the same thread with your method. My best buddy, the machinist, took a 3/8" rod and stepped it down to 5/16" then another step to 1/4". It took all of 30 seconds to pop out that bushing. Thanks to you all, this forum is a great tool for a hacker like me. I have learned tons reading these threads.
