I have just picked up a 79 Thundercraft Titan ss with a 50hp merc outboard. The motor turns freely and has good compression but its not sparking. The 2 wires coming up out of the harness are carotid and the casing has fallen off them. I am assuming one wire is a hot wire off the magneto and the other is a ground.(these are the wires running to the coils) If i replace these wires i should get fire.
Now can any one tell me if i am assuming right or wrong on this one? Or does any one have a wiring diagram for a 79 4cy 50 merc outboard?

Now is the wiring replaceable from the switchbox to the coils? or is the wiring sealed in to the switchbox?

Individual wires.... Merc used to sell them as a harness, part# 84-73446.

Just use a bit of green wire (with decent insulation) and hook them up...
