I have a 1979 6hp E-rude; it will run up to wot for about 30 seconds then die down to less than  half throtle. Was told the high speed jet causes that, so i rebuilt the carb. Motor still runs great at low to mid range throtle, but same reaction at wot. I can pull the choke half way out and get it to run a little over half speed with throtle in wot possition. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Weak fuel pump, fuel pickup problem, bad primer bulb, clogged fuel tank vent, to name a few.

new fuel tank, new fuel line, and fittings, new bulb. If pump is week shouldnt motor pick pick back up when squizing bulb while running? It doe not and bulb is tight. This is my delimma.

Sounds like your floats may be out of adjustment causing the engine to starve for fuel.

I can tell you my rebuild kit said to have the float level with the carb on my '77 9.9.

I'm starting to wonder on that myself...

also could this possibly be from motor running hot, because it ran fine and one day comming home we were going across the lake and it just dropped rpms, and i have had this problem every since. motor pees good though, just curious putting new impeller in today.

One other thing you might check is the coil.
Possibly a weak coil can also cause problems as it heats up.

ok I put in impeller checked coils and no improvement. I did notice when i took the hood off motor picked up and ran good. Only with the hood off would it run good . Checked hood for breather holes and it has none, should there be some, or am i missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Just curious. How did you check the coils?

Stump...I see an exhaust/powerhead gasket replacement in your near future. Leaking exhaust under the cowling is choking your motor.

Hey! Glad that sorted things out for ya. Sometimes, things aren't always as obvious at first glance. Feel free to stop back by with any other questions, and thanks for reporting back with your results. It helps others who might have the same problem.
