79 Evinrude 85hp start solenoid wiring question

Have 12v from battery. Turn the key to start, have 12v to small terminal(whitish wire), no power to starter. 2nd terminal is grounded to block. Brand new "automotive" solenoid just to see if I can get the motor to start. I apply voltage from battery to starter, starter spins and engages motor. 2 quesrions. 1. What am I missing? 2. The S and I terminals, which wire (white wire, ground wire) belongs on which terminal? I have a manual coming in case you were wondering.

Wrong solenoid.----Run to a boat shop and get the right one.-----They used the same solenoid for about 40 years and not expensive !!----Checked the safety switch in the control box ?

Safety switch works as it should. Ive been through the wiring from front to back before I posted on here. If its the wrong solenoid, whats the difference between the solenoids? I found an OEM replacement and its also a 4 post solenoid with the S and I terminals. So Im not sure what the difference is honestly.....
