79 Evinrude Out of Storage

My 6 hp model 6904E has been sitting in the corner of the garage un-touched for at least 12 years. Tonight I hooked it up to a new gas tank and it fired right up. It seems to run great and after a few minutes it had a steady stream of water out the back so I guess the water pump is OK.

Is there anything I should do to it before I take it to the lake? Has anyone scanned the manuals for these old motors and put the on the web? Sorry if these are stupid questions, this is my first post.

Without question, replace that water pump impeller. It WILL fail on you. Its not a question of if it will fail, but when. Other than that, if it was stored properly, and runs fine you might get away with changing the lower unit grease and going.

I picked up a manual at the library today and I am about to tackle the water pump re-build. Thanks for the helpful suggestions and info.
