Hello all just wondering power tilt died today found the problem had a hose blow. Tomorrow going to get 4 new hoses and replace all but heres a stupid question where do you fill up the pump once i replace all hoses i can't find a fill spot anywhere and also the fluid that leaked out was red looks like tranny fluid but the pump says use 10/30 or 10/40 is that not just motor oil HMMM I am stumped. can anyone help. I noticed from when a bought the boat the motor would slowly fall down by itself hopefully once I change all the hoses that will fix that to. Thanks All!!!

Re: 79 Glascon with 90 merc Power tilt prob.

Clayster, Although the PTT will run on tranny fluid, I use regular motor oil like the pump says. If that PTT is the two ram, one external pump kind, there is an aluminum slotted screw on the front right side. This is the fill screw. The steel cap screw to the left of it is the vent. It has a leather washer under it.

The problem with this type of PTT unit, is that it is not self-bleeding. There ate two phillips head ss bleed screws on each cylinder. These must be bled in an up position, which means you must remove the trim cylinders, lay them out horizontally, and bleed the screw that is now facing up.

As for your motor slowly lowering down. It is possible that this will get fixed with the hose replacement. If it doesn't, you may need a new teflon piston seal. They are available, however you need a spanner (you can make this tool) to open the cylinder, and special tool to install the piston into the cylinder liner.

A manual is likely in order for you.d:)

When I did mine, I couldn't find a small funnel that was also long enough (my pump is hard to access) so I made one with a tighly rolled up piece of paper.

I used my lower unit lube pump by screwing it onto a qt of motor oil (versus LU lube). It did not thread into the pump, but was the small enough.

Thanks guys i will try that still looking for new hoses cheapest price i found so far was 80 plus tax and it could tkae 2 weeks to get. Still looking to see if i can just get them made up or fix the other hoses . I was thinking maybe I could leave 4 inches of old hose with the fitting and get new hose sliced between the fitting and old hose. Two of my hoses have leaks around the middle of the hoses. I can't find anyone that will make these kind of hoses GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
