At my wits end. The electric choke on my 79 johnson sea horse is not working. It is a push to choke. I have replaced the key switch and solenoid itself. odd thing is when i let it sit for a while the choke will work on the initial key push but none after that. im thinking the next step is to check the wiring with a mutlimeter?

Measure for 12V at the solenoid, also make sure it's well grounded. If no 12V, check wiring. Possibly a broken wire in the motor harness - try moving the harness around while checking for 12V at the solenoid.

ok i have it figured out. After heeding your advice i checked the voltage at the switch and solenoid and both checked out a perfect 12V. The choke plunger spring was not allowing the plunger to go back into the solenoid far enough to engage. Just let the spring out far enough and now it works great. lesson learned. now i have an extra key switch and choke solenoid. Thank you for your response.
